Located in the heart of downtown, 235 2nd Street is a Class A office building. It was built from the ground up by Birmingham Development in 1999.
This dynamic building was designed by architect Fee Munson Ebert and constructed by Swinerton Builders. It contains 285,000 square feet of space and sits upon floor plates of 40,000 feet—an acre of city ground. A large central staircase connects all six floors. Light is celebrated with a large atrium and windows on all four sides of the building. The owner hand-selected seven different shades of brick during a trip to Washington State, combining them to create a façade rich with visual character.
In his article “Classy Newcomer/ Architecture of 235 2nd Street”, critic John King of the San Francisco Chronicle praised the property as “a well-crafted building, as elegant as it is intelligent”.
Tenants benefit from ample below-grade parking and a top-of-the-line fitness center. The front of the building incorporates a bronze fountain by celebrated local artist Archie Held. In the courtyard public open space stands a stainless steel sculpture by renowned British artist Anish Kapoor— both artworks adding distinctive cultural elements to the property and to San Francisco.
